Norroy Bioscience's Kidney Cancer Imaging Agent Achieves FDA Breakthrough Designation

Published Date: August 19, 2026

Norroy Bioscience Co., Ltd., a biotechnology firm specializing in targeted radiopharmaceuticals, has announced that its kidney cancer imaging product, 68Ga-NYM096, has received both Breakthrough Therapy and Fast Track designations from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This innovative agent utilizes PET imaging to target carbonic anhydrase IX (CAⅨ) for the detection of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC).

The designations highlight the potential of 68Ga-NYM096 to enhance diagnostic precision over existing methods, as indicated by preliminary clinical data. Its development aims at non-invasive PET imaging to differentiate ccRCC from other renal lesions identified by CT or MRI, addressing significant diagnostic challenges in the field.

As the first radiopharmaceutical of its kind developed in China to receive the FDA's Breakthrough Therapy Designation, 68Ga-NYM096 demonstrates promising capability in improving patient outcomes. The Fast Track status facilitates its rigorous development and could expedite regulatory review processes by promoting frequent communication with the FDA and enabling rolling review submission of a New Drug Application.

Clear cell renal cell carcinoma represents the predominant type of renal cancer, accounting for 70%–80% of cases. The American Cancer Society has projected that in 2026, about 80,450 new kidney cancer cases will emerge in the U.S., with approximately 15,160 resultant fatalities.

Norroy Bioscience's founder, Peng Fang, expressed optimism regarding the potential of 68Ga-NYM096 to transform ccRCC diagnosis and management: "We have seen promising clinical data from the ongoing development of 68Ga-NYM096, supporting its potential to advance the diagnosis and management of patients with ccRCC. Additional clinical data of 68Ga-NYM096 will be presented at the 2026 EANM Annual Congress."

The company intends to begin Phase I clinical trials in both China and the U.S. and continues to engage with the FDA to advance its clinical agenda. Norroy is committed to the widespread impact of their innovative diagnostics on global health care systems. While these designations are significant, it must be noted that they do not imply regulatory approval, and 68Ga-NYM096 is still classified as an investigational product.
