Applications Open for ARO Medical Student Committees

Looking to network and gain publishing-related experience in radiation oncology? ARO is seeking applicants for our four Medical Student Committees: First Pass Peer Review, Social Media, Podcasts & Webinars, and Future Content. Accepted students will join our current team of medical students in running the self-regulated committees, which were developed in 2022 to advance student exposure to radiation oncology and provide publishing-related opportunities in the field. Membership typically spans two years, and one year for 4th year medical students. Students may be considered for more than one committee.

Applications -- the deadline has been extended to October 19, 2023.

Faculty Advisor: ARO Editorial Advisory Board Member Sarah Hoffe, MD, Section Head of GI Radiation Oncology, Moffitt Cancer Center

About the Committees

  • First Pass Peer Review: This committee offers the opportunity to gain experience in peer reviewing article submissions to ARO. Members will join more senior peer reviewers in critiquing case reports, research papers, review articles and editorials.

  • Social Media: Committee members will expand current efforts and initiate ways to optimize social medial engagement through ARO and beyond to increase medical student exposure to radiation oncology.

  • Podcast & Webinar: Members of this committee will interview ARO authors in Beam On podcasts to take a deeper dive into published articles. Students are encouraged to produce additional podcast and webinar offerings.

  • Future Content: Students partake in a variety of editorial opportunities including blogs and peer-reviewed manuscript submissions (research articles, review articles, case reports). Members are also encouraged to develop editorial ideas such as the quarterly RadOnc Student Scan enewsletter launched by this committee
