Elekta reported phase 2 findings presented at ASTRO 2026 from Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto. The study evaluated Gamma Knife stereotactic radiosurgery with the center's Spatially Partitioned Adaptive Radiosurgery (SPARE) technique in patients with 5 to 50 brain metastases.

Investigators reported favorable memory performance two months after treatment and no difference in time to meaningful cognitive decline between patients with 21 to 50 lesions and those with 5 to 20.

The results support continued investigation of focal treatment in carefully selected patients with numerous brain metastases. They do not establish superiority to whole-brain radiotherapy or demonstrate that every patient with this lesion burden is a suitable candidate.

The manufacturer announcement does not provide full trial methods or detailed toxicity results. Longer follow-up and comparative investigations remain necessary to interpret the clinical implications.
