Elekta Announces Adaptive Radiotherapy Portfolio with Advanced Capabilities at ASTRO 2026
Elekta has revealed the expansion of its adaptive radiotherapy portfolio to include new functionalities across CT, MR, radiosurgery, and brachytherapy modalities. Unveiled at the ASTRO annual meeting, these advancements aim to integrate adaptive treatment options into routine clinical practice, offering more tailored and efficient patient care.
The company’s suite of adaptive solutions now extends to Elekta Unity for MR-guided radiotherapy, Elekta Evo for CT-guided online adaptive radiotherapy, and Leksell Gamma Knife Esprit for adaptive radiosurgery. Recently, Elekta introduced online adaptive capabilities for Elekta Harmony, a CT-Linac platform, and real-time adaptive planning for prostate brachytherapy with Elekta Prostate Guideway.
Elekta Harmony’s enhanced feature set, supported by Elekta ONE Online software, helps assess patient anatomy during treatment sessions and enables adaptive treatment-plan changes as needed. Designed for operational efficiency, Harmony provides streamlined workflows and automation to support continuous treatment delivery, even in high-volume settings.
Chirag Shah, MD, Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Allegheny Health Network, emphasized, “For adaptive radiotherapy to reach more patients, it has to fit into daily clinical practice. Different patients and disease sites need different approaches, and the workflows have to be practical and efficient for our team and clinically appropriate for the patient. Having adaptive options across Elekta’s portfolio helps us deliver the same high-quality care across our network.”
Furthermore, Elekta Prostate Guideway introduces adaptive workflows for high-dose-rate (HDR) prostate brachytherapy. This solution integrates imaging, planning, and treatment adaptation within a single-room setup, featuring continuous dose recalculation and real-time plan updates that accommodate anatomical changes and needle shifts during the procedure. The integration of diagnostic MRI and biopsy data into the live treatment workflow, combined with instant visual feedback, supports well-informed target and treatment planning decisions.
John Lapré, Elekta’s Chief Business Line Officer for Brachytherapy Solutions, highlighted the importance of timely information in such treatments: “In a dynamic interventional procedure like prostate brachytherapy, having the right information at the right time can make a meaningful difference. When clinicians can continuously see the impact of changes and receive clear guidance, they can adapt treatment with greater confidence.”
These developments extend Elekta’s adaptive offerings across multiple treatment modalities, providing clinicians the flexibility to choose the most appropriate imaging and workflow solutions based on patient needs and clinical circumstances.
It is important to note that the regulatory status of some products may vary by region. The Prostate Guideway is still pre-commercial and awaiting FDA 510(k) clearance and EU CE marking.
