Study Examines Prostatic Artery Embolization in Men With Small Prostates
October 4, 2026 · News Release

A single-center retrospective study from Moffitt Cancer Center examined prostatic artery embolization (PAE) in more than 100 men with prostate volumes below 60 cc who underwent treatment between 2018 and 2025. The Society of Interventional Radiology reported approximately 80% clinical success.
Investigators highlighted the relevance for men with troublesome lower urinary tract symptoms who are preparing for, or have received, prostate radiotherapy. Their findings suggest that smaller prostate volume alone need not exclude consideration of PAE for symptom management.
The evidence comes from one center and one operator. It does not establish that PAE is appropriate for every patient, nor does symptom improvement demonstrate an anticancer effect. Broader validation is needed before generalizing the results.
