Deborah Baumgarten Appointed New ARRS President at Annual Meeting
Deborah A. Baumgarten, MD, MPH has been named as the new incoming president of The American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS). The announcement was made at the recently held 2025 Annual Meeting. Baumgarten succeeds Angelisa M. Paladin, MD, who served as president from 2024 to 2025.
Dr. Baumgarten, a globally esteemed radiology expert and advocate for education, has been appointed president following her tenure on the ARRS Executive Council. Her leadership ushers in a new era for the society’s mission to enhance medical imaging and patient care through innovative education, rigorous research, and collaborative efforts. Renowned for her extensive publications, clinical acumen, and instructional excellence, Dr. Baumgarten continues to inspire and lead within the imaging community worldwide.
Baumgarten’s academic achievements began at Brown University, graduating with honors in 1985, and later at Emory University School of Medicine, receiving her MD in 1989. Her internship (1989-90), residency (1990-94) and abdominal fellowship (1994-95) were all completed at Emory as well as a Master of Public Health (2001) degree. Her 25 year-long distinguished career began at as an attending at Emory and later continued as a faculty member at the Mayo Clinic Florida in February 2020. Dr. Baumgarten's roles at Mayo Clinic include educational liaison for the abdominal CT rotation, ultrasound operations committee, and organization of the resident lectures for the abdominal division.
